Among the unmissable sites to visit in the Tarn, do not miss the episcopal city of Albi classified in the World Heritage of UNESCO, ‘church Notre-Dame-du-Bourg de Rabastens and the railway viaduct of the Viaur which crosses the valley between Rodez and Albi.
At 50 km from our campsite, Cordes-sur-Ciel is part of the most beautiful medieval cities that can be seen in the department as well as Lisle-sur-Tarn, an old bastide-port nestled in the heart of the Gaillac vineyards, famous for its magnificent corbelled houses.
Your cultural stay in the Tarn would not be complete without a visit to the four Tarn villages labeled “Plus Beaux Villages de France”. These are Castelnau-de-Montmiral, an ancient fortress reputed to be impregnable overlooking the Tarn valley ; Lautrec, famous for its windmill, its collegiate church St Rémy and its ramparts ; Monestiés and its Saint-Jacques chapel sheltering twenty life-size statues of the XVth century, and finally Puycelsi, built on an enormous rock and nicknamed the “fortress of the woods”.
