The historical center of Albi<\/h2>

In the 13th century, Albi becomes a powerful episcopal city<\/strong> after the Albigensian crusade against the Cathars. From this time, it has preserved a rich historical and architectural heritage classified by UNESCO in 2010.<\/p>\n

Go first to the cathedral of Sainte-C\u00e9cile d’Albi<\/strong>, a gigantic red brick fortified church with a 78 m high bell tower. Its nickname of “red city”<\/strong>, Albi owes it precisely to the color of the terracotta brick, omnipresent in the local architecture.<\/p>\n

Let your footsteps guide you through the narrow streets of the old town lined with old half-timbered houses and sumptuous mansions of Renaissance style such as the Maison du Vieil Alby<\/strong>, the Enjalbert house or the H\u00f4tel Reyn\u00e8s.<\/p>\n

The Cathedral of Saint Cecilia of Albi<\/h2>

Built on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Tarn, the Cathedral Sainte-C\u00e9cile d’Albi<\/strong> is a pure jewel of Southern Gothic art inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2010. It is also the highest brick cathedral in the world<\/strong> ! <\/p>\n

Inside are vast sets of Renaissance paintings, late medieval sculptures<\/strong> and a magnificent polychrome statuary carved<\/strong>. The visitor remains speechless in front of the beauty of the frescoes of the vault, the masterpiece of which is the immense painting of the Last Judgement, a major masterpiece of monumental painting, carried out in tempera by Flemish artists at the end of the 15th century.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

The Toulouse-Lautrec Museum<\/h2>

Located on the banks of the Tarn river, the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum<\/strong> is a major museum dedicated to the work of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, the child of the country. <\/p>\n

On two floors, the museum owns the the largest collection in the world<\/strong> of the artist’s works: early paintings, major portraits, lithographs, posters, drawings… <\/p>\n
